About the artist

Graduating in 1972 from Exeter University, London, with a bachelor’s degree in Art and Education Psychology, Wayne Warren has established himself as a contemporary artist in both two- and three-dimensional pieces. His work highlights the consumer’s fixation with materialism and challenges the market valuation of physical goods. Most commended for his work with gold, Warren has been called a “twenty-first century Midas… with diametrically opposite intentions”—taking patently uncelebrated items and converting them into treasure. Essentially, Warren synthesizes common objects and transforms them into art; each work is constructed of everyday objects cast into a thematic representation of what society adores: gold, fashion, and other seemingly extravagant items. These items: gold shoes, a gold dress, etc., are presented as an adoration of excess as the viewer recognizes their individual components: spoons, small toys, metal parts and gadgets. This juxtaposition, referred to as Warren’s challenge to “regard the dangerous and implicit relationship between the accumulation of wealth and trash,” confronts the consumer’s desires, wants, and the moral cost of “things” of intrigue. With exhibitions in Asia, Europe, and the United States, Warren’s most recent exhibits include “International Artist”, Tianjin Creative Industries Expo 2013, Tianjin, China; “Moniker Art Fair 2013”, London, U.K.; and La Rondine Gallery, Bagni di Lucca, Italy. Warren’s stunning creations are prominently featured in many permanent and private collections across the globe, as well as in various countries and continents including Australia, Britain, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, China and the United States. His work may be found in many public collections such as Judith Neilson, Founder/Director, White Rabbit Collection, Sydney; Lloyds The First Ten Years Luton Museum and Art Gallery, England; The Long Gallery; Birmingham University; Lloyds Bank, England; Norwich Hospital; Montclair Kimberley Academy, NJ, USA; and Cambridge University.
