About the piece
Mid-19th century. Bronze hilt, originally gilt, with recurved guard and lobed pommel. Particularly high relief decoration of foliage and rococo forms copied from western art. 33 1/4" broad wedge section deeply curved blade of heavy form, specifically meant to attack European cavalry. Hilt with dark patina, the detail very well preserved. Blade shows glossy gray granular patina. Impressive proportions.
