All Too Human
About the piece
When Roland Barthes coined the term “neurosis of fashion” (La névrose de la mode) in the seventies, I doubt that he was able to foresee importance of this phenomena. In short, he argues that fashion contains ability to “tame “the new” even before ”the new” is produced, which results in paradox that “the new” is unpredictable and disclosed at the same time. The world of fashion, therefore, represents raw ideological construct, a manifestation of visual utopia. This utopia, decorated with hyperaestheticized content, offers “amnesia which allows the present to give place to the future.
