About the artist
I am a Sussex based artist who paints large original landscape paintings and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. I acquired a fine art degree from Brighton in 1983 and began my painting career as a portraitist and muralist. However, sometime in the late 90’s, after painting my 200th labrador – I realised I was crushingly bored and needed to develop my own painting style and began to paint landscapes and seascapes for my own amusement. I am inspired by the patterns and movements of nature and animals and eventually developed a painting style that combines traditional painting techniques with more abstract and contemporary techniques. My artworks evolve from simple ideas, usually after I have taken a walk somewhere and have decided to try and capture a little of the essence of that place. They are expressionistic, impressionist, art deco and something possibly unique to me in the feeling they evoke. I like to think that paintings have ‘little souls’ woven into them by artist’s and that these are what call to a viewer (or not as the case may be) and give a painting presence and desirability. My goal is to one day paint a place so beautiful I will disappear into it and never be seen again and to create worlds where others can do the same – even if only for a little while.
