About | "Starlit Horses” is a painting with a mystical energy which radiates into the interior space when it is exposed. It is an artwork that invites the viewer to open the doors of his own imagination and puts him into a meditative state of mind.

The painting pictures (in a hidden way) three celestial riders that are riding on starlit horses. The riders have been watching and guarding our universe from its beginnings. The whole scene is covered in a mist of stars where our Milky Way shines through the eyes of the middle horse.

The painting is made in a technique which I discovered after years of exploring and experimenting with drip painting. It is similar to pointillism, but with the difference that here 'controlled drops' of paint form patterns that create an image. The optical effect is shown when a viewer steps back a few meters from the painting - and the whole motif appears.

It was really important that I used only 'natural materials', because I believe they are the only ones that can give all the essential features to the artwork to become 'alive'. It has rough uncorrected edges and is very resistant.

About the artist
Andrej Mratinković was born in 1984 in a town Celje in Slovenia. He graduated at the Department of Fine Arts at University of Maribor in 2011. When he decided to study fine art, he quickly came to realize that his work will also be to deeply analyze all the components that will give him an artwork that he truly strive for; and for that he would need a lot of exploration, experimentation and experience. A turning point in his artistic development was the discovery of artworks by sculptor Mirsad Begić, who inspired him with his incredible work, personal mythology and introduced him to natural materials, especially "coffee".

Mratinković's main fields of art creating are drawing, painting, small sculptures, digital art and graphic design. He would define himself as an "experimental artist" who has been intensively experimenting with various themes, styles and materials since he "decided to enter the world of art."

His work is often linked with concepts like: imagination, primacy, archaism, mysteriousness, mysticism and poetics.

He lives and works in his home town Celje in Slovenia (Europe).

“Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.” (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)
