About the piece
This example has an expressive face with Hellenistic influences. The head turned slightly to the right, the eyes deep set beneath down turned eyebrows. The broad forehead, furrowed by five horizontal wrinkles. The hair is rendered by deep, dense incisions that curve over the temples. The ears are schematically modeled, the nose is long and slightly sloping, the flesh is treated in a distinctively realistic fashion. The lips are slightly pursed and the cheeks are somewhat sunken, showing the marks of advanced age.
