About the piece
Theta is part of a series of abstract works that explore the idea of conscious versus unconscious decisions. Each piece begins as a scribble: a consciously unconscious mark. This mark is something you could never conceptualize or imagine, and yet is effortless. Building upon these marks, my interpretation and conscious decisions guide and shape the piece, but ultimately do not dictate its outcome. In this way, the process reflects the human experience, a dance between our subjective and collective mind, between what we decide and what is decided for us. The scrutiny of conscious versus unconscious decisions is my attempt to examine what makes us who we are, without our decisions. This exploratory process is synthesized with transhumanistic ideas, referencing algorithm based imagery to illuminate the nature of our limited sensory experience.
This piece is a Canvas reproduction and not the Original Painting.
About the artist
Douglas Keliiheleua Kleinsmith is a visual artist based out of the Sacramento area, currently traveling and showing casing his art throughout the West Coast. His personal work explores process art, investigating trans-humanism, visual perception, and the connection between the creative process and consciousness. His approach to painting focuses on the separation of conscious and unconscious decisions, utilizing and examining the interplay between the two in order to create visual imagery. Reminiscent of art therapy and its intention to develop emotional intelligence, Douglas uses art as a means to explore the self and through his own filter, attempts to help others do the same.
