Which Way the Desert Wind
Oil, pastel, oil stick Canvas
About the piece
I am a colorist and the Sonoran Desert is my muse. The painting is a deconstructed landscape. I use color and gestural markings to create my interpretation and emotional reaction to the landscape around me. Of particular interest are the flora & fauna which is abundant in our desert. From wildflowers to cactus flowers there are blooms even in the heat of summer. The end results are colorful & joyful paintings packed with positive energy and a joie de vivre. The paint is applied by brush, knife, and in stick form and is enhanced with pastel markings and shading. The 2-3 inch gallery edges of the painting are painted black and wired for a ready to hang finish.
