About the piece
"Toro! Jr" is an abstract passionate bull. Simplicity is Toro’s strong suit. I was inspired to create “Toro! Jr” from a 1945 lithograph of a bull by Pablo Picasso. Made out of various sizes of mild steel round bar and 18g. mild steel sheets. Painted red.
About the artist
As a young boy, I enjoyed drawing as an outlet. Experimenting with all types of mediums, I didn’t discover metal until 2002 when I started work at an ornamental blacksmith shop. I worked as a blacksmith for six years and along the way I discovered my passion for sculpture, particularly direct metal sculpture. The years I spent blacksmithing taught me how to pay attention to detail while the couple of years I spent working as a fabricator taught me how to be time efficient with my work. I’ve been working as a full-time sculptor for almost five years and I find that my work is ever-evolving and I’m constantly fine-tuning my skill. It’s a wonderful journey and I’ve been enjoying tapping into my creative subconscious. I’m excited to see what my art has in store for me!
